This year's election is like no other given the ongoing impact of the COVID virus. Our democratic process has been the envy of many countries, and the County Commissioners are committed to ensuring that every voter has access to voting and that every vote counts. Even in these challenging times, we will make sure that all voters can vote and that the election is fair and transparent. To this end, we want to respond to questions that voters have.
In Allegany County, here is what's happening:
The registration deadline is October 13th. However, those who are not registered by that date may register during the early voting period or at a voting center on election day, November 3. To check their registration and/or to check their Mail-In Ballot/Provisional Ballot Status, voters may use the voter look-up tool at https://voterservices.elections.maryland.gov/VoterSearch
On November 3, Allegany County will have 6 voting centers::

Allegany High School
Flintstone Volunteer Fire Department
Fort Hill High School
Mountain Ridge High School
Westmar Middle School
Voting hours are from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. at all locations, and voters can vote at whatever voting center is convenient. This means that voters who want to vote in person should not go to their usual voting center but rather to one of the six centers listed above. Anyone can vote in person if desired as election judges will be available at these sites.
Early voting will be from Monday, October 26 to Monday, November 2 (including Saturday and Sunday) from 7 am to 8 pm, with an early voting center at the County Office Building on Kelly Road. Individuals can register to vote at age 16 but are not eligible to vote in this election unless they will be 18 on or before election day, November 3. To register at early voting, an eligible voter must have a document that proves where he/she lives. This may be a Maryland MVA-issued license or ID card, a paycheck stub, bank statement, utility bill, or other government document, e.g., a passport, that lists your name and new address. With such proof, a voter can register to vote and vote the same day.
Drop boxes will be available at the County Office Building and at Mountain Ridge High School. They will have a staggered delivery. A drop box will be available beginning October 1 and throughout the early voting period and on November 3 at the Kelly Road County Office Complex, 701 Kelly Road, in Cumberland. Mountain Ridge High School’s drop box will be delivered between October 15-18th at 100 Dr. Nancy S. Grasmick Lane, in Frostburg. Voters may use either ballot drop box. Drop boxes will be locked at 8 p.m. on Election Day, November 3.
If a voter wants to have a mail-in ballot, these must be requested by October 20, not simply postmarked on that date. All voters should receive, in the mail, an application for an absentee ballot, called a mail-in ballot application. Mailed ballots must be POSTMARKED by November 3. Any voter can drop a ballot off in the drop box at the County Office Building on Kelly Road. Anyone who wants to can vote in person on November 3 at one of the above voting centers from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
