Pool injury
Hi there, I'm not sure if this email will go to the correct recipient or not. But, I was at your pool on Sunday, August 25 with my sons for what was to be our first trip to your lovely pool. As most poolgoers do, we eventually gravitated toward your diving board. Of course, we noticed that there was a sign next to the board warning that the surface is slippery, do not run, and to please walk.
Despite obeying the signs and respectfully walking on the board, I still managed to slip and fall. I don't quite know the mechanics of the fall, but I do know that when I took my first jump and planted my foot - my planting foot slipped underneath my body, which then caused my body to collapse onto my knee and leg (effectively a hyperflexion) resulting in me falling into the pool.
The pain was immediate and agonizing. When I managed to get to the side of the pool, I immediately noticed that my kneecap was out of place. I hoped that this was a simple dislocation that could be quickly remedied with a trip to the hospital. As it turned out, I suffered from a total tear of 2/3's of my quad muscle, which has since required surgery to repair.
I don't necessarily know where to go from here. Before this, I was fit and active and this is an obvious setback to my lifestyle. I have health insurance, but with most things there always seem to be bills that hit you even after you meet the deductible. I also have part-time jobs and businesses which are now impacted by this accident.
I would really like to see your establishment replace that diving board. One of your lifeguards mentioned that someone tore their ACL on it the year prior. I would also like to see your insurance help out with upcoming bills and loss of income. I can't emphasize enough what a catastrophic injury this was to my otherwise healthy leg. The nurses at the ER even commented that they never see anyone in my good health standing come through their doors with something like this.
I look forward to your reply.
Yours,
Matt Cain
