City of Frostburg Launches Building Improvement & ADA Upgrades Grant Program
The City of Frostburg is pleased to announce $50,000 in grant funding that has been awarded to support the City’s Building Improvements & ADA Upgrades Grant program. This program was created to provide financial incentives to the owners of commercial properties within the City’s Sustainable Community boundary and/or their tenants that will encourage building updates that increase accessibility and appropriate, attractive improvements to downtown buildings.
The program provides grant awardees with a 75% match for projects that increase ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) accessibility, and approved projects involving general building and façade updates will be provided with up to 50% matching funds. The goal of this program is to improve the accessibility, integrity, longevity, and overall appearance of aging downtown buildings, therefore increasing the property’s value to both the owner and to the community at large.
Projects increasing ADA accessibility will be prioritized for grant funding. Other eligible projects include, but are not limited to: framing, windows, electric and plumbing upgrades, sprinkler installations, and necessary finish work to create/improve viable commercial or office space in currently unused or underutilized interior spaces. Eligible exterior projects include façade walls, windows, doors, entranceways, decorative features, permanent commercial signs, and other building frontage elements visible from a public street.
The Building Improvement grant program is funded by the Community Legacy grant program sponsored by the State of Maryland’s Department of Housing and Community Development and is administered through the City of Frostburg's Community Development Department.
