Annual Membership

Maryland’s Mountain City is a special place - very few towns, similar in size to Frostburg - can claim that they have their own Foundation! In 1995, with great foresight, the Foundation for Frostburg was established. The mission of this volunteer-directed non-profit has remained true: to receive, manage, and disburse funds designated for special community projects that enhance the quality of life for the citizens of Frostburg and the surrounding area.

The Foundation’s first project was the swimming pool playground. Since that time, continued donations and income of over 1.4 million have placed 1.03 million back into our community. As of 12/31/17, The Foundation holds $415,000.00 in support of 21 different project funds. Currently, operational costs such as insurance, audit, and postal fees are paid for by donations, interest income, and project fees.

Our 25th anniversary is just around the corner, and the Board of Directors has identified three challenging, but obtainable, financial goals.

1. Every donated dollar will remain within each project fund, and no operational fee will be withdrawn to sustain Foundation operations.
2. Funding for the annual Frostburg State University Scholarship will be solidified. For the 2019 academic year, a total of $3000.00 will be needed to fund three scholarships. In 2020 and beyond, a total of $4000.00 per year will be needed to fund four scholarships.
3. Frostburg Roots: A Community Legacy Fund will endow at $500,000.00. Currently at the halfway mark, interest from this endowment will be distributed in the form of grants to those community organizations that share our mission.

To reach these goals, the Board has established an Annual Membership Program. The true cost of maintaining our Foundation should be borne by those that enjoy “our enhanced quality of life.” Foundation Directors, who believe in our community, are personally reaching out to those who share that same spirit. An annual tax-deductible gift of $100.00 will place the membership program on firm footing, and pave the way for an even stronger future for the Foundation for Frostburg - and for Maryland’s Mountain City.
