Which Projects Require a Permit?
The following activities within the City of Frostburg require permit approval:
- New Construction (including sheds, decks, garages, and additions)
- Solar Installations (roof-mount or ground-mount)
- Remodeling, renovation, or other physical alteration of an existing structure (structural modifications only)
- Grading
- Fences
- The placement of any signage
- Home Occupations (Type B home-based businesses - See Zoning Ordinance, Section 8.1)
- Business Occupancy or Relocation
- Demolition
- Temporary/mobile vendors and door-to-door solicitation
- Burning
- Certificate of Appropriateness for work that alters the exterior of a structure in the Historic District
A permit is required for a variety of reasons to protect public safety and quality of life:
- To ensure that proposed businesses are legally allowable in the proposed location
- To ensure that structural alterations are safe and compliant with the city's requirements
- To protect the integrity of the city's utility system
